Estrangement & Parental Substance Use

My name is Meghan Grill, and I am a doctoral  student in the Counseling Psychology program at Fordham University. I am currently conducting a research study as part of my graduate thesis, which explores the lived experiences of emerging adults (ages 18–29) who grew up with and became estranged from a parent with a substance use disorder.

The purpose of this study is to better understand how parental substance use and family estrangement may impact the emotional well-being, identity development, and mental health of emerging adults. Insights from this research aim to inform and improve support services for both individuals and families affected by addiction.

Alternatively, you can contact Meg by email mg109@fordham.edu
